Immersive Scholars Program Terms and Conditions 2025
Congratulations! I am pleased to inform you that in addition to your UML Merit Scholarship, you have been selected to participate in the
Immersive Scholars Program
. This highly-selective program provides a $4,000 award tied to a research position, community work placement or international experience in the summer after your first year or during your sophomore year.
You may select one of these options. If you choose a research position, you will work alongside members of our accomplished faculty or staff on meaningful projects in a field related to your academic program. If you select a community work placement, you will intern with a local nonprofit or government agency related to your interests. If you select an international experience, you may put your award towards any approved program through the Office of Study Abroad & International Experiences.
Selecting UMass Lowell means you have chosen outstanding academic preparation in your discipline with significant opportunities to learn through experience. The university's low student-to-faculty ratio of 17:1 and the breadth and depth of its programs provide ample opportunity for accomplished students, like you, to be challenged and achieve uncommon success.
Congratulations on your outstanding accomplishments. I look forward to welcoming you to UMass Lowell.
Terms and Conditions:
I will enroll as a UMass Lowell first-year student beginning in fall 2025.
This opportunity provides a one-time award of up to $4,000.
If I choose the work experience, I understand I will be required to present documentation of my eligibility to legally work in the U.S. If I do not have this documentation, I understand I will not be eligible to participate in the co-op work experience.
For International students only: As an international student I understand that even though I am offered the award based on academics, my visa status may prevent me from participating. If I have questions, I will review my visa status and eligibility to participate in this program with the UML International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO).
This experience is guaranteed, provided I meet all the terms and conditions of my UML Merit Scholarship (as outlined in a separate letter from UMass Lowell) and complete all the requirements of the Immersive Scholars award.
The award must be used during the summer of 2026 or during the 2026-2027 academic year. If I do not use the award within this timeframe, I understand I will forfeit the award.
If I choose a co-op work experience, I will be matched with a faculty or staff project on campus or in the local community that relates to my academic program. My award will be paid to me as a taxable paycheck.
If I choose to participate in a university-approved international field-based experience, I will work with the UMass Lowell Office of Study Abroad & International Experiences to secure a program. My award will be paid to me as a scholarship.
