Defer Request

UMass Lowell Undergraduate Admissions Deferral Request

Thank you for your interest in UMass Lowell. Please carefully review your options and then complete this form to inform us of your request to defer.

A student may request a deferment of enrollment up to one year beyond the date when the student was scheduled to enroll. If the one-year time period is exceeded, a student must submit a new application and application fee. A deferral must be requested before the start of the semester for which the student was originally accepted.

By requesting a deferral, you agree to the following:

    • Students who defer their offer of admission & who elect to take courses at another two or four year institution must be re-evaluated based on the completed grades and coursework.
    • Students are responsible for communicating any updates to the admissions office to their application, including, but not limited to: educational history, disciplinary history, and biographical information, when requesting a deferral.
    • Nursing students cannot defer their acceptance, they will need to be re-evaluated.
    • Merit scholarships cannot be deferred to future terms. Students will be re-evaluated for merit scholarships based on their new semester of attendance.

You can submit any questions via email before making your decision, we are always here to help.
